First of all,i must point out that the spelling is ABERYSTWYTH. The second Y in the main title is missing. --- Aberystwyth is an ancient market town on the West Coast of Mid Wales UK. , on Cardigan Bay. It is a lovely holiday resort. There is a Pier, Promenade, also it is a University town.
Swansea is 55 miles away. and Shrewsbury in England is 60 miles. At one end of the Bay is Constitution Hill and the other end Castle Hill. --I
stayed 4 nights at a Guest House in town centre. A sight to see in the early evening was the starlings coming in to roost under the Pier. The train station and bus station are side by side.-- Aberystwyth is a great place to stay as a hub for trips out...My first day out was up the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge line to Devils Bridge, in the mountains.---Second trip was by train to Machynlleth which is in Powys There is a beautiful clock tower, the Museum of Modern Art is in town. There is a large market on Wednesdays [Not during the present Virus Lockdown ] I continued by train to Harlech. Here the main attraction is the castle, high on the cliff. The English Monarch Edward 1 built the castle in the late 13th century. It was taken by Welsh Leader Owain Glym Dwr in 1404.
Most people will know the Regimental March "Men of Harlech" written about the seige of Harlech in 1408.
If you travel by car , Porthmadog is 9 miles , away. ---My third trip was by bus to Aberaeron south of Aberystwyth.
It is a colourful fishing port, midway between Cardigan and Aberystwyth,on the A487 main road, about 16 miles.
I continued by bus to Cardigan which as been a port since the Middle Ages.,,It says in 1800 about 300 ships using the port. The wooden bridge across the river was replaced by the first stone bridge in 15th century... It was January on my visit so needed a lovely bowl of soup to warm me up. This was a great short break.
